The Justice Courts are often called “The People’s Court” and “Small Claims Court.”
As Justice of the Peace, Judge Naomi Doyle presides over misdemeanor cases, traffic violations, and other petty criminal infractions. She has authority over cases involving small debts, landlord and tenant disputes, and other small claims court proceedings. Judge Naomi Doyle also serves as a Magistrate, assessing bonds, presiding over arraignment dockets, and signing warrants,
Procedure
Ensuring courtroom procedures are designed to hear and process more cases in an equitable manner. This will help county residents get through the court system and back to their lives, faster.
PROMISES FULFILLED:
-Cleared years of court backlog
-Spearheaded the implementation of E-filing in Jefferson County Justice Courts
Youth Engagement
Identifying and addressing teen and youth delinquent behavior through innovation and accountability, such as: Mentorships, Internships, and Apprenticeships.
PROMISES FULFILLED:
- Created the Judicial Academy: Internship and Mentorship Program: a program for high school students, providing valuable knowledge and experience in the Judicial and Criminal systems.
-Mentors at-risk youth through the I.E.A. program and other partnerships
Justice
Delivering Justice with the highest level of integrity and fairness and also going beyond the typical call of duty, creating a much needed elevation of the expectations of the position.
PROMISES FULFILLED:
-Impartial rulings for ALL litigants
-Serves on the Legislative Committee for the Justices of the Peace to ensure that the issues that matter to Jefferson County are heard and advocated for, by state legislators.
Resources
Establishing community programs and resources so Jefferson County residents have a better understanding of the judicial process and how to navigate the Justice Courts.
PROMISES FULFILLED:
-Hosted Rent Relief Programs to help tenants and landlords
-Created the Resilience Summit: an annual program that brings needed resources to the community
-Hosts annual community service projects under the Precinct 1 Day of Service: fostering the importance of giving back through service.
